Assessors approve exemptions, note day school PILOT deal

Board of Assessors · Meeting of January 13, 2026

Belchertown Assessors approve exemptions, note day school PILOT. Chair Loring Caney and Vice Chair Craig Tommila unanimously approved motor vehicle excise abatements for disabled veterans Peter Dasilva and Jeffrey Czech and for David Graves, while denying abatements for Cheng Yu-Wei and Honda Lease Trust. The Board unanimously approved five fiscal 2026 property tax exemptions and partially approved a Chapter 61A classification for the Kirby property with 22 acres for agricultural protection.

Director John Whelihan noted a $6,000 annual PILOT agreement negotiated with The Belchertown Day School in 2025 to avoid Appellate Tax Board litigation.
