Belchertown Recreation Dept. Wins Grant for New Multi-Use Surface
The Belchertown Recreation Department has secured a $47,600 state PARC grant for a new 120-by-120-foot multi-purpose asphalt surface at the Chestnut Hill Recreation Area, Grants Manager John Cody told the Select Board on Oct. 19.
BELCHERTOWN -- The town's Select Board heard from Grants Manager John Cody on Oct. 19 about a batch of recent state grant awards, including one with direct impact on local recreation facilities.
TOWN
The Belchertown Recreation Department has been awarded $47,600 through the state's PARC program (Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities) for the Chestnut Hill Recreation Area multi-purpose surface project. According to Cody, the funding will go toward installing a new 120-by-120-foot multi-purpose recreational asphalt slab at the site. He said the surface is intended to support "expanded recreational activities, cross-generational," with rollerblading mentioned as one possible use.
The PARC award was one of two recent grants from the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs that had not yet been included in the town's earlier press release on state funding; Cody told the board a second related grant, referred to as the "Land Grant," was also pending further detail.
No Belchertown High School games were listed by ArbiterLive for the period, and no youth league or community league updates were included in this week's sources.
