Board approves exemptions, Chapter 61 applications, and abatements

Board of Assessors · Meeting of January 27, 2026

Belchertown Board of Assessors approves exemptions and Chapter 61 applications in January meeting. The board approved multiple FY26 property tax exemptions and FY27 Chapter 61 and Chapter 61A applications on January 27, along with abatements for town-donated land and one property valuation adjustment. The board also approved the 2026 tax map maintenance contract with CAI Technologies for $6,400, a $300 increase year-over-year.

Director of Assessments John Whelihan addressed resident concerns about recent tax bills, noting that the town's tax override drove higher amounts while the quarterly billing process remained unchanged. All votes in executive session were unanimous.
