Board votes 3-2 to enforce tobacco-age violation at two retailers

BELCHERTOWN — Board of Health affirms tobacco sales violations at two retailers. The Board voted 3-2 to uphold $1,000 fines and three-day tobacco sales suspensions against Village Package Store at 16 Federal Street and Ye Olde Grog Shoppe at 32 Depot Street for selling cigarettes to people born after January 1, 2004 (the Nicotine Free Generation). Board staff had conducted compliance checks on December 15 following two rounds of retailer education in November and early December.

Chair David Gottsegen and Member Colleen DuroShea voted against enforcement.
