Communications Committee · Meeting of June 25, 2026
Belchertown's Communications Committee discussed implementation questions for the town's newly approved artificial intelligence policy during its June 25 meeting. Committee members reviewed two recent examples of AI use in government work—an event flyer with AI-rendered artwork and an AI-created certificate—and noted the policy may need refinement in distinguishing different types of computer-generated graphics. A UMass research project on employee and volunteer attitudes toward AI in municipal settings launched June 25, reaching 20 identified individuals.
An Isenberg School intern is researching how similar towns address AI governance and will deliver a final report by August. The committee's Communication Plan was passed to the Select Board for July 6 presentation by Chair Chris Martin.
