Finance Committee approves FY27 budget recommendation and reserve transfers.

Finance Committee · Meeting of April 2, 2026

BELCHERTOWN — Finance Committee accepts FY27 budgets and approves $23.6M in reserve transfers. Chair Brian Gibbons and the committee reviewed town and school budget documents previously approved by the Select Board, noting Belchertown ranks fifth in tax rate among ten comparable area municipalities. The committee voted unanimously to approve a $3,600 transfer for Tadgell School utility expenses and a $20,000 transfer for outstanding legal fees, leaving a remaining reserve balance of $45,400.

The committee also heard a $26 million redevelopment study for the former Tadgell School, with three options presented by civil engineers and architects; the Select Board has expressed preference for a hybrid civic and business use but has not finalized a decision, with funding expected from grants rather than taxpayer dollars.
