Finance Committee reviews FY27 town and school budgets, preliminaries only.

BELCHERTOWN — Finance Committee reviews preliminary FY27 budgets with no votes required. Chair Brian Gibbons and Vice Chair Mike McMorrow joined Clerk Richard Kowal in hearing from Town Manager Steve Williams on a projected town-side increase of $141,036, pending Commonwealth calculations and finalized line items due at the next meeting. Town Accountant Jill Rossi presented free cash allocation methodology and explained that the full school budget remains due by April after the school system provides outstanding responses, with two Tri-Board meetings tentatively scheduled for review.

The committee heard presentations on Chapter 70 state education aid and the 40R affordable housing overlay district, which currently has no qualifying town properties.
