School fields strategy shifts to soccer field rejuvenation

Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of January 6, 2026

Belchertown Community Preservation Committee shifts school fields strategy. Director of Building and Grounds Eric Lebeau reported that two wells drilled for the project yielded only 8 and 12 gallons per minute, falling far short of the 80 gallons per minute needed, prompting the committee to reject a $100,000 storage tank and instead focus on rejuvenating the existing soccer field. Chair Jim Natle and member Michael Hofler requested a comprehensive report.

The committee also reviewed Belchertown Little League's updated application, which has secured $110,000 in donations and in-kind commitments from local businesses including Excel Drier, with plans to host the 2027 Little League Tournament and Miracle League of Massachusetts events if upgrades proceed.
