Select Board approves FY27 budget after motion to redirect staffing funds fails.

Select Board · Meeting of March 23, 2026

BELCHERTOWN — Select Board approves Belchertown FY27 budget after debate over staffing allocations. Town Manager Steven J. Williams and Town Accountant Jill Rossi presented spending that includes approximately $23 million in planned borrowing for capital projects and an anticipated $250,000 annual capital allocation.

School Superintendent Brian Cameron confirmed no layoffs and identified moving expenses from the Cold Spring closure as the most significant upcoming facility cost. A motion by Nicole A. Miner to redirect a $20,000 finance director stipend to a deputy fire chief position failed 2-2-1; the board then unanimously approved the budget as originally presented, with the $20,000 remaining designated for finance director duties as an interim measure.
