Belchertown seeks donated tree for Winter Light Night
Belchertown is asking residents to donate a 10- to 12-foot evergreen tree for the 9th Annual Winter Light Night on the Common, set for Nov. 28. Offers are due to Town Manager Steve Williams by Nov. 16.
The Town of Belchertown is looking for a resident willing to donate an evergreen tree to serve as the centerpiece of the 9th Annual Winter Light Night, hosted by the Belchertown Cultural Council. The official tree lighting will take place Saturday, Nov. 28, at 5:30 p.m. on the Belchertown Common.
The town said the tree on the Common has long been a highlight of the season, and this year officials hope to add a community-donated tree to the celebration. The town is also exploring planting an additional holiday tree on the Common in the future.
The town is seeking an evergreen 10 to 12 feet tall that is in great condition and full on all sides. The tree must be located in Belchertown. A fresh-cut tree is preferred, but a live tree will also be considered.
Residents who want to offer a tree should email Town Manager Steve Williams at SWilliams@belchertown.org by Monday, Nov. 16, including the tree's location and approximate height, along with a photo. Questions can be directed to the Town Manager's office at 413-323-0403.
The town will notify donors by Wednesday, Nov. 18, whether their tree has been selected. If chosen, the donor will be responsible for cutting down the tree or, for a live tree, prepping it for transport. The town will then arrange either pickup, which requires direct access to the tree, or delivery to the Common by Monday, Nov. 23. From there, the town will set up, secure and decorate the tree, and the donor will be thanked publicly for the contribution.
