School Committee Hires Investigator, Declares Van Surplus
School Committee · Meeting of August 25, 2026
Belchertown School Committee hires outside investigator for a personnel matter, with no cost cap set. Superintendent Brian Cameron told the committee the probe will draw on a standing reserve fund, saying "I would recommend that school committee has a reserve fund for issues of this nature." Members also unanimously declared a 2006 Ford Econoline van surplus, with possible donation to Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School, and approved 2026-27 handbook updates including a revised 7:40 a.m. to 2:18 p.m. high school schedule. A policy barring on-campus appointments with outside agencies drew scrutiny after one member asked "how many kids does this policy impact," with staff citing a single case where a private counseling session left a student in crisis.
The district's Summer Eats program served 2,894 lunches in July and August combined and reached 1.2 million people on Facebook, funded partly by the nonprofit Project Bread.
