Select Board approves $61,611 for school opioid-treatment program, mulls Tadgell building future.
Select Board · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Belchertown Select Board approves $61,611 opioid-settlement support for schools' federal grant expansion. The Board voted unanimously to fund supplemental staffing hours and travel for the schools' Drug-Free Communities initiative, which holds a $125,000 annual federal grant. Chair Gail Gramarossa presented a second proposal modeled after Boston's HALO program to assist families following overdose deaths, with the Board expressing general support for further exploration.
On the $1 million Tadgell MVP 2.0 resiliency-hub grant, the Board split on next steps, with member Lesa Lessard Pearson open to returning funds if use were restricted to the building alone; Town Manager Williams will seek clarification from the MVP program on repayment obligations under sale, demolition, or transfer scenarios.
