BELCHERTOWN — Board of Health appoints nurse, reorganizes leadership for fiscal 2027. Candice Clark, RN, hired by Quabbin Health District on May 26, was unanimously appointed Public Health Nurse, with David Gottsegen, MD, unanimously elected Chair; Kenneth Elstein, Vice Chair; and Gail Gramarossa, Single Signatory. Board Chair Gottsegen outlined research on glyphosate and other pesticide health risks, citing World Health Organization findings on non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and disclosed he has requested pesticide-use information from the Public Works and Recreation departments for municipal properties including schools and cemeteries.
The board voted unanimously to invite all town departments, Economic and Industrial Development Commission members, and the Tri-Lakes Committee to the next meeting to discuss pesticide use on municipal land and regulatory impacts, with a draft regulation to follow and a public hearing scheduled for the subsequent month.
