Planning Board Endorses Two-Lot Split on Barrett Street
Planning Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Belchertown Planning Board starts drafting local data center limits, presses a developer on stalled drainage fixes. Chair Dan Beaudette said he added the item after watching other communities act, and Town Planner Doug Albertson suggested a local threshold near one megawatt, far below the state's 25-megawatt benchmark for "mega" facilities. Because November's special town meeting warrant has already closed, any moratorium or bylaw would not go to voters until spring 2026; members plan to borrow language already adopted in Holyoke, Westfield and Easthampton.
Separately, Beaudette told Woodland Lane developer Andre, "please be assured that if it happens again, you're not going to get a friendly response," after residents reported basement flooding tied to unfinished stormwater basin repairs. The board unanimously endorsed a Form A lot split for applicant Melanie Spellman on Barrett and North Liberty streets and approved a $184.20 publications bill.
