Select Board Splits $341,000 State Aid Windfall
Select Board · Meeting of October 5, 2026
Belchertown Select Board splits a $340,896 surplus between repairs and reserves. The board unanimously funded $34,194.66 for police radios and $25,000 for a Jabish Brook boiler, then voted 5-0-0 to add $50,000 for athletic field water tank footings and $42,000 for a compensation study last done in 2013, sending roughly $189,700 to stabilization. Member Jen objected, saying "I feel like we just won the lottery, and we're going to spend it all, and I don't like that." A resident, Bruce, urged during public comment that the whole sum "should go straight into the stabilization fund." The board also approved a fuel storage license for Window World at 401 Mill Valley Road and voted 5-0-0 to drop income limits from the veterans tax work-off program.
