Board of Assessors approves military abatement policy change.

BELCHERTOWN — The Belchertown Board of Assessors voted unanimously to eliminate federal income tax return requirements for non-domiciliary military personnel applying for motor vehicle excise abatements, requiring only a Commanding Officer letter verifying home state and military orders. Chair Craig Tommila, Vice Chair Jeanmarie Leone, and Clerk Loring Caney, Jr., also approved disabled veterans Hero Act abatement applications and routine bills totaling $30.61 in FY2026 and $3,350.00 in FY2027. Director of Assessments Zak Bombard reported that town property values require approximately 4 percent increases to meet state Department of Revenue guidelines, with current values at around 94 percent of full market value.
