Historical Commission appoints Lewis as CPC liaison, advances Cold Spring public history project
Historical Commission · Meeting of May 26, 2026
BELCHERTOWN — Historical Commission appoints Robert Lewis CPC liaison and examines Cold Spring site. Visitors Cliff McCarthy and Allegra Giovine proposed converting the National Register-listed spring into a public history space with a kiosk and tours; the site sits along the colonial Bay Path and contains the town's earliest non-indigenous artifact, a 1727 map. Jill Bierly will contact UMass Archaeology and the Massachusetts Historical Commission about preservation options.
The commission also approved Michael Carolan as a full member replacing Alex Loss and set the June 1 date for the Belchertown 250th Anniversary planning meeting.
